    Rental Pilots work on planes

Dave that's hokem that's been disproved over and again. The engine operation manual from Continental say the engine can be safely operated up to 4 inches over square. This CFI has exactly 40 minutes experience with a prop governor.

    Rental Pilots work on planes

Yes and the sad truth is many of these CFI's have only a few more hours than the student they are struggling to teach. After 25 hours training I bought a 182 to finishing my training and had 20 hours in it when I had to switch CFI's to finish. So 60 hour student doing mock check rides. The kid...

General Question Over DUI, Form 8500-8, Form 8710-11

An acquaintance was studying for his PPL late in life, was pretty sad to learn during the course of training he would be unable to get his PPL due to a DUI conviction 24 years prior. He hadn't had a drink since. Seems like there should be some remedy given such a long time since the offense.

    Ben Visser on unleaded avgas

Hilarious! I thought I may have been the only guy to listen to his EAA webinars at 1.5-2x speed!

    Putting CamGuard to the Test

Any goofballs still adding Marvel's Mystery Oil to gas and oil? The nutty anecdotal claims were always good for a laugh. I remember that being a big thing a while back. Talk about a boondoggle. People have no idea the chemical composition, but are happy as clams to jigger a can in their oil...

    PIREP--- SPORTY'S PJ2 Radio

I have the previous version the PJ2 for about 3 years with good success. The user interface is much easy to operate than my other radio the Yaesu FTA-250. The integrated pilot headset sockets are a HUGE plus. Nice not having to deal with adapter cables. Pluses: Direct plug-in headset sockets...

    Cleaning engine compartment

I just had my plane repainted by one of the best shops in the country. I too had bodywork dust on my new engine. That powered dust from sanding body filler and primer floats into everything. The shop did a terrific job of sealing the interior cabin which had zero shop dust, and plastic wrapped...

    Improper Sale of an Airplane?

Some of my favorite forum threads are the streams of replies to a person with only ONE (1) post. We all gotten suckered-in by one posters. I have. The really awesome trolls are the one's who come back to spin the nonsense wheel once or twice more to watch everyone run around it like gerbils.

NOOB needing advice on a from-scratch upgrade

Don't over buy, but buy enough avionics. The latest trend for C150's is: * Pair of G5's or pair of GI-275's if budget allows * GNX-375 ADS-B transponder with WAAS GPS * GNC-215 Nav/Com * GNC-205 Com * Audio panel PS-450B or C or Garmin You will want a 4 cylinder engine monitor like the Garmin...

    172/Cherokee gotchas

On landing Cessna's only float if a pilot is fast on short final and over the fence. 50 knots over the fence and chop power and land on your spot. @ateamer Looks like you're in Florida? Given the heat, sitting under the shade of a high wing is something to consider. Worth consider only buying...

    Complex/High Performance aircraft questions

@Eibwen this is a very helpful video: Mike Busch describes in simple detail the leaning process and how to use the throttle, prop, and mixture control. There is a part 2 video he calls the "Leaning, the Advanced Class" or something like the such.

Replacing C182 ammeter/vacuum gauge with ammeter only

EI Gauges will work with Cessna Shunts. Robin, another idea... Why not make a black vinyl semi-circle sticker cover the vacuum half of the gauge? Make or acquire a circle and cut it in half. The vacuum system is gone, it's not even an INOP situation.

Replacing C182 ammeter/vacuum gauge with ammeter only

Yes you can remove the vacuum gauge if the vacuum system is removed and install a new amp meter. Strongly consider prioritizing an engine monitor installation. It will pay for itself in saved fuel and heading off engine issues.
