Amazing save in a Grumman AA-1C

Wow! What a story! That’s some real airmanship. Good reminder to do a post MX flight over the airport. It’s one of those things I know but have been guilty at times of not doing

    Paint

I used a Testors airbrush kit, ya know from model cars n planes? Quick/simple setup compared to a compressor. Just an aerosol can of propellant. But was able to buy reg car paint, our local Napa was able to mix it. Then I had it and could mix when I needed and the airbrush did great. Once done...

If you own a truck and live in the rust belt.

Definitely lack of factory love. I had two Saabs in the past in Michigan, didn’t take care of them rust-wise at all. Both had two small spots of rust on a wheel well when I got rid of them at 275k and 210k. Working on em- they looked untouched underneath and not a single bolt head was badly...

Airbnb/VRBO hosts: How to estimate likely occupancy rate?

Great insights! Definitely need to consider the negative sides or you’re not doing your due diligence…

Airbnb/VRBO hosts: How to estimate likely occupancy rate?

Excellent insight on how to use the existing tools available right on the public facing side of their sight. Excellent thought- makes perfect sense. Thank you very much!

Airbnb/VRBO hosts: How to estimate likely occupancy rate?

Northern Michigan- lots of recreation everywhere. So there’s summer and winter attractions. I would assume it would be mostly vacationers w the area. So besides a strip there would be snowmobiling, mushroom hunters in spring, summer in N Michigan in summer and beautiful n Michigan fall n deer...

Airbnb/VRBO hosts: How to estimate likely occupancy rate?

Right, I was just thinking general area... As many of its bookings may not be to airplane folks, there's other recreation in the area... Estimating $150 a night or $300 a night is relatively easy... Its the how many nights out of the available ones would it be filled I'm trying to...

Airbnb/VRBO hosts: How to estimate likely occupancy rate?

So we are considering building a cabin/hangar on some property on a very nice strip. I don't want to just fund the build straight out of pocket at the moment, but we thought if we could Airbnb/vrbo it, then it may make financial sense to pull the trigger sooner than later on building on the...

New device increases safety for general aviation pilots

I wish we could customize the voice calls on FF- so it gave just an audible “request” when it announced “500 agl” to “500 agl- check gear down” - nothing is fool proof but would be a handy lil change to tech I already have on board.

    172/Cherokee gotchas

Yup, I see where my thinking was off now. I pretty much knew it was, but I got down a rabbit trail in my head on it and took the wrong path :)

    172/Cherokee gotchas

I’m curious, not challenging: wouldn’t taller pistons actually lower overall displacement? As they still would be taller at bottom dead center, right? Or am I thinking wrong?

    172/Cherokee gotchas

It did, and it was insightful and thoughtful you mentioned it to him. It’s very easy when you’re in the situation to think the current state will hold. I’m going through it myself as my mom declines… ya get set up for current state and it’s easy to forget the current adaptations are always temporary:(

    172/Cherokee gotchas

Ya know w someone mentioning that mobility may become even a greater challenge as time goes on is probably another reason to consider the cardinal. A Cherokee or even my Mooney suggestion may work now but not a year or two down the road… so that was a good thought someone pointed out

If [BLANK] is what you find too expensive about flying...

They are pricey, I replaced mine in my ol Cessna 140. Elected just to do pilot side, and man it seemed insane paying for that part- BUT after it was on I felt it was worth the $350 or whatever it was- the plane felt like your car does after ya get new tires and an alignment… it was a marked...

    172/Cherokee gotchas

Yea the Cardinal would prob really work well for him! Lino doors! Also the shade of high wing as someone else pointed out is nice if he’s in a hot sunny area.

    172/Cherokee gotchas

I would definitely think a mid body would be in order if considered at all here. I would think entry would be similiar to a Cherokee. The mid body gets rid of the necessity that backseaters are double amputees :). The C is the most common Mooney and is short bodied. G,F,J’s got a 11 inch...

    172/Cherokee gotchas

I’d consider a Mooney! You’ve been hooked on RV speed, why not get a fast 4 seater that sells at less than a Skyhawk and burns about 1/3 less fuel on a trip. My m20f has a 1050 useful, just flew it from MI to Florida, did 130-150kts on 8.5gph.

    The death of an insitution

It was good for some and awful for others. It’s often easy to see the past through rose colored glasses and the present through doom n gloom. It’s not a new phenomenon either. If you read many of the writings in the 1940s the older generation seen the new generation as self centered, inept...

    The death of an insitution

I was in the program in the late 80s and early 90s, it was awful… the leaders were awful, one leader missed many meetings leaving us sitting there. When they did show up they would get us in some boring project and then go chain smoke. We camped once and made a burger n potato in foil in the...

Great article on how Boeing has failed

There’s a great Netflix documentary on the same thing. Lots of past Boeing employees talking how the corporate culture shifted over the years…
